We left for Perhentian Islands the day after school was over (June 8). Perhentian Islands is made up of two main islands - Perhentain Kecil (small) and Perhentian Besar (large). We stayed on Perhentian Besar. Perhentian Islands is a 6 hour drive on the opposite coast of Malaysia (we go off the island of Penang and onto the mainland of Malaysia and drive to the opposite side), and then it is a 30 minute boat ride to the islands. It is a very beautiful place with turquoise water and lush hilly islands. During our time there we spent two of the days at Turtle Beach, a wonderful place for swimming and snorkeling. It was a great way to start our summer vacation. I was able to take some pictures while snorkeling with my underwater camera. One of the highlights was seeing swordfish and a black tip shark but I was not able to get pictures of either one.

One day we also visited a fishing village on Perhentian Kecil. It was interesting seeing all the different types of houses, some of them very rustic on the exterior but surprising that almost all of the houses had satellite TV and some people were even watching American TV.
