Batu Ferringhi
Kate and Elizabeth are holding coconuts we found on the beach.
A few days after we arrived we went to the resort area of Batu Ferringhi. Batu Ferringhi is about a fifteen to twenty minute drive west of Tanjung Bunga, where we live. We were taken there by our Dalat host, Jasmane. The girls had some fun walking on the beach. Eileen had a couple of scary moments when she took off her shoes to go in the water and a dog ran up and snatched one of her shoes and ran away. Dogs here, we were warned, are not pets but rather act as protectors and thus should be given a wide berth. It is suggested that when you go for a walk you might want to take along a stick to ward them off if necessary. There were a couple of seconds where Eileen pondered what to do about her shoe but the thought of wandering around the rest of the night with only one runner on prompted her to action. We alternately chased and tried to spook the dog; he would chew the shoe and then run off with it, but ultimately we seemed to spook him at the right moment and he dropped the shoe thankfully. The bite marks weren't too noticeable! Later we went to a night market, did a bit of shopping and had fresh juices: Watermelon, Lime, Lime with Plum, Honeydew, and Pineapple. (To be honest, they were all terrible-tasting except for the Watermelon.). The most interesting item we saw to purchase at the market was a "Vancouaer Canucks" cap (to get the full effect say it out loud).

Looks beautiful.
