To write about our first day (arrival 11:30 am) in Tanjung Bunga (also seen spelled as Tanjong Bunga and Tanjung Bungah) was a blur to say the least. The few things I remember are:
1. The heat as we came out of the airport. It felt like waves from a furnace coming toward you from all different angles, like "wham" and everything starts moving in slow motion, for example, your mind, your body, smiling, etc.
2. How green and mountainous it is here - like B.C. but smaller mountains and palm and coconut trees instead of evergreens.
3. Shopping at a place called 'Tesco' that feels like a 'WalMart' superstore (with groceries) but you don't recognize any products, except we did see 'Corn Flakes' of all things (so now our girls eat that for breakfast). The few things I remember about Tesco are that milk comes in a box, someone weighs the produce for you (like what would happen at a deli counter in Canada), and there are fish bins where you pick out with your hands the complete fish - head and all - that you want. By the way, that is how people eat it too - fried whole with the head and tail still on; just pick off the meat. We will likely write more about Tesco in a future blog as it will be a place we will regularly shop.
4. We really were impressed with our house - what it looked like, how clean it was, andhow our host (Jasmane Frans) made it look very welcoming. More about our house in a future blog.
5. We slept with every airconditioning unit on that night (there are 6 of them).
Finally getting to read your blog again. Oh, it sounds so familiar, even the fish. Like Japan, like Honduras, I guess like any tropical place.
