Penang Butterfly Farm

On  Thursday, August 2, we went to the Penang Butterfly Farm. It is about a 25 minute drive west of our house, but it is still on  Penang Island. There were many hundreds of species of moths and butterflies (some of them endangered) that could be viewed up close. The butterflies would actually land on your hands or shoulders searching for food, especially if you had something sweet that they like. The juice from an orange was especially successful.  Most of us were able to release a newly born butterfly into the air, sending it along with our own personal wish, like we would do when we blow out a birthday candle.  We also went to the attached museum where there are other animals on display - snakes, spiders, (glow in the dark) scorpions, frogs, turtles, beetles, etc.  There were also displays of preserved bugs, butterflies, and other creatures, plus in another part of the museum there are artifacts that have nothing to do with animals but were items found in the hinterlands of Malaysia, ex idols, old furniture, nick-nacks.  In North America, we would not sell some of those items in that part of the museum, but there they are for sale and pretty reasonably too if you are into those types of things.  We will definitely go back again.

Hannah was sick that day and mostly sat in the shade resting, so we will go back for her benefit too.
